Project's details
Design of an easy-to-use tool for presenting curated health information to seniors
UC Davis Health is interested in developing tools to support healthy aging in the community using a variety of technologies. The online world is a rich source of medical information for seniors. The internet is filled with both reliable. evidence-based health information and unreliable information that is of questionable value. and possibly harmful. to consumers. We would like to create a user-interface that presents older consumers with a well-annotated. curated set of information (in video format whenever possible) related to health and wellness. that is customizable to their interests and health conditions. An example of content that UC Davis Health has already created related for Healthy Aging can be found here. There is much more information from reliable sources that could be made available to consumers that would create a more comprehensive set of information for them across a variety of topics. The goal of this project is to create an easy-to-use. informative. personalized. and even enjoyable interface to search and view reliable. evidence-based health information.
Students working on this project will assist in the design and development of a web-based user-interface tool to create a “walled garden” of evidence-based information on health and wellness from credible sources. Such an interface may be used in a computer inside a kiosk. that may be placed in retirement communities. clinics. or other places seniors frequent. Students will work with content providers (UC Davis Health) to understand the nature of health content available and with end-users (seniors) to understand needs and challenges encountered by seniors in obtaining health information on the web.
- A working prototype of the User Interface. and demo for UC Davis Health leadership (plus some interested 3rd parties) - The students will be expected to deliver the Tool’s source code in Github or other suitable repository - Comprehensive documentation of the code is required |
|
- Web development tools (e.g. HTML. Javascript. etc.) - Ability to work with various end-users and health care content providers to understand needs and challenges - Interest in health care applications and user-interface design |
