Project's details
EV Explorer 2.0 | |
Strategies to promote plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) adoption include consumer education about potential energy/fuel and maintenance cost savings compared to conventional gas vehicles. However. the complexity of comparing gasoline and electricity prices makes it difficult to quantify potential savings. and the complexities of balancing fuel and maintenance savings with the higher purchase price of electric vehicles further compounds the issue. Online vehicle energy cost calculators help consumers navigate this complexity. and research shows they can increase consumer knowledge and positive attitudes about PEVs. The Plug-in Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Research Center developed one of these vehicle cost calculators. called EV Explorer (gis.its.ucdavis.edu/evexplorer). |
|
We are currently wrapping up a research project for which we conducted usability testing with EV Explorer and two other online vehicle cost calculators. Based on this testing. we designed a new version of EV Explorer. The proposed project is to implement the new design. which will include heavy front-end and back-end web development work. There will also be support from 3 other CS students in our lab and a staff level programmer available to help advise the students.
The deliverable will be EV Explorer 2.0 implemented and live.
